I was working late on an illustration project and I sent it off for feedback, but I wasn’t tired yet. I decided to do a little sketch of my oldest daughter in her all stars soccer goalie uniform just for fun. After a few minutes, I decided she needed her fan club, so I put Lucy and Cara – our identical twin 1 year olds to cheer lead for her.
I realized halfway through the sketch that I was going to have to color it because these kids are so damned cute. Below you can see my three stage process for most of these types of illustrations. Usually, the second stage is strictly ink and I remove the sketch layer, but I liked the way the sketch looked in the drawing so I left it in the background at a lowered opacity.
